The festival of Gudi Padwa is incomplete without Puran Poli. There is a tradition of making Puran Poli especially on the first day of Hindu New Year i.e. Gudi Padwa. The easier it is to make this sweet dish, the tastier it tastes. Puran Poli prepared with wheat flour and sweet gram dal stuffing is liked by adults as well as children. Ingredients for Puran Poli

Washed chana dal - 2 cups
  • Water - 3 cups
  • Sugar - 1 cup
  • Cardamom powder - 1 tsp
  • nutmeg, grated

To make dough:
  • Maida - 2 cups
  •  Salt - 1 tsp
  •  Ghee - 2 tbsp
  • Water

How to make Puran Poli


To make Maharashtrian style Puran Poli, first take chana dal, wash it with clean water and soak it for 3 hours.
Put chana dal in a pressure cooker and cook till 3 to 4 whistles.
After this, open the cooker and separate the lentils after taking out the water. Then mash the dal coarsely.
Then put this coarse dal back in the pressure cooker and add sugar to it. Mix it well and cook on low gas flame.
After this add cardamom powder and grated nutmeg to this mixture.
Cook on low heat till the mixture becomes dry and then keep it to cool.





Till then prepare the dough for Puran Poli. Take all purpose flour in a bowl, add salt and ghee to it, knead the dough using water as needed. Then cover the dough and leave it for 30 minutes. Now take a ball and knead it. Take a puri-sized ball by placing it on a griddle, then place the prepared puran in the middle of it. After stuffing the puran, close the dough. After this, flatten it by placing it between the two palms and roll it. Take a nonstick pan and heat it on medium heat. After the griddle is hot, put Puran Poli on it and roast it. Apply ghee in it and cook till it turns golden from both the sides. Similarly prepare all the Puran Poli. Serve hot by applying ghee to Puran Poli.
